News from the International Terraced Landscapes Alliance

22.12.2011,

Dear friends and colleagues,

before the Year 2011 ends, a brief update of ITLA wishing you a successful and peaceful 2012. The organising committee (Catholic University, Agriculture University La Molina, CIPTA, Centro Bartolomé de las Casas, Cusichaca, Agrorural and Agroacción) for the 2013 International Terraced Landscapes Conference has met several times during the last months. The organisers met on October 6, 2012 at the Catholic University in Lima to discuss a work plan for the planning and preparation of the Conference. The office of AGRORURAL, which is in charge of an IDB-project to recover Terraced landscapes in the Rimac Valley, invited specialists to discuss the inventory of Peruvian terraces on November 11 as part of the preparation of the Conference. The next meeting will be the detailed planning workshop of the Conference on January 25 in Lima, afterwards the organisers will distribute the first announcement of the International Conference. The planning workshop will also start to enrich and complete the bibliography on Terraced Landscapes in Peru.

The Italian section met in Gorgusello in the uplands of Verona on November 20 and 21. I attach the short report prepared by Donatella Murtas, the coordinator of the Italian section. We enjoyed to attend
a seminar on Terraces and Local Cultures organised by Antica Terra Gentile in the Romanic Church of San Marciale in the Valpolicella Region. Please, do not forget to send your registration to ITLA, if you have not done so.

And do not hesitate to communicate your activities directly to all members, or to send it to my mailbox for the next circular letter, which we shall prepare after the planning workshop in Lima. I hope to be able in 2012 to present a world map with the main terraced landscapes. If you have information or maps, please communicate with the member of ITLA.
