BACKGROUND

Considering the Terraces world relevance, First World Terraced Landscapes Congress was organized by the Chinese Popular Republic in November 2010. The organization was in charge of the Provincial Government of Red River, at the Ailao mountain region, where the ancient water terraces are located. These terraces are characterized by a multiethnic management of water and soil.

TOWARDS THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS

The Second International Congress on Terraced Landscapes will take place between 15 May 2014 and 22 May 2014. Peru has been chosen not only for having terraces (Andenes) worth showing to the world and for having logistics capacity to respond to the demands of an international event, but above all because during the last decades have been developed various efforts to rehabilitate agricultural terraces, or introduce the technology according to the specificities of each region. These efforts have been driven directly by the State, non-governmental development agencies, or by farmer’s own initiatives. Yet, there are no defined policies by governments –or those are little known- about how to act and in what resources invest for slopes conservation through its transformation into agricultural terraces.
