17.09.2011,
Dear friends and colleagues,
until now we have received the registration from Massimo Angelini, Enrico Fontanari, Donatella Murtas (Italy), Sabina Asins, José Ramón Olarieta, Rosa Poch, Felix Retamero (Spain), John Earls, Maja Tillmann (Peru), Jon Sandor (USA), Lew Young (Hongkong), Clare Westwood (Malaysia), but we still miss the rest of the members who signed in Mengzi in November last year and other colleagues, who have shown interest in terraced landscapes and the people who are the stewards of terraces and its biodiversity. Please send in your registration form of the International Terraced Landscapes Alliance.
The Italian section is preparing a funding proposal and is looking for partners from academic institutionsworldwide. The Andean College of the Center of Bartolomé de las Casas has shown interest to join, they
are based in Cusco, Peru, and are doing research for development in different watersheds of Cusco, Arequipa and Puno, where terraced landscapes of Quechua and Aymara mountain communities still flourish. We are waiting also for a response from our Chinese colleagues in Kunming and in Mengzi.
We will discuss and prepare a sequence of workshops about the Inventory of Terraced Landscapes in Peru, the identification of case studies from the inventory and potential terrace experts from
communities - on terraces and on agro-biodiversity, publications and collecting the Peruvian and Andean Bibliography on Terraces, and the discussion of the preparatory processes with local communities as hosts of the International delegations as well as the visualisation of their wisdom on terraces for the Farmer Forum during the Conference.
In November we shall meet again near Verona with the Italian section. The meeting will be hosted by Plinio from Compascuo and is organised by Luca and Donatella. Please send in your registration soon. Please forward also the registration form and other material from ITLA to colleagues you may know who might be interested to have contacts with terrace lovers in other countries or continents.
